When Vera Santamaria was growing up she couldn't help but notice that there weren't a lot of 'brown families' like hers on TV. She wondered, "What gives? My family's funny!" And right then and there she started dreaming up her very own TV show about a South Asian girl and her family. Years later when John May and Suzanne Bolch saw what she'd written so far, they thought, "Hey! This is funny! We should figure out how to get this show on TV!" Together they started working on How To Be Indie and as soon as YTV came on board, they all knew you'd soon be laughing.
